Flags / Fewer Borders

2016, Print

While living in the U.S. as a non-citizen, I felt the need to create a poster with a socio-political message that opposed divisive immigration policy. So I decided to look at all the flags of all the countries in the world and design a composition that united all of them. I took the colors of each flag, in the correct proportions, and placed them on the canvas next to each other. Initially, at the top of the poster, each flag is still recognizable as an individual item, but at the bottom all the colors start merging together, to symbolize the way policy could unite us rather than divide us. Initially, the design was created as a paper poster, but I later decided to revisit it and print an actual flag.
